Nostalgia
I'm going all nostalgic on you guys now... Last night there was a reception at School to welcome the new admits for the class of 2008 and I helped the Programme Office out. It was like stepping back in time to my own admission a year ago. Everything was still new, unknown and exciting because of the new-ness and unknown-ness of it all, and that excitement was palpable yesterday. It reminded me of how jaded you can sometimes become once you get what you want, in this case being admitted to the MBA program. Once admitted and arrived at your MBA-program, soon this state of excitement changes into day to day routine. What seemed new and exotic turns into everyday life and chores. I've struggled a little bit with trying to keep that excitement alive, to not take the possibilities and opportunities for granted. Day to day life sometimes took over, and before I knew it, I was in over my head with exams, assignments and lectures and lost my sense of discovery. And I (and with me more of my classmates) sometimes lost that feeling of excitement, of trying out new things and the joy of being here, at London Business School and in London and enjoying it to the fullest. So one of my resolutions for this new term (my last as a first years!) is to enjoy more, and fret less.Yesterday started off with the first lecture of the new term: Management Accounting. I can see the use of the topics discussed, but the jury's still out whether or not I'll love this course. It just goes so much against my 'poet' grain. We'll see. One of my former professors always used to say 'Everything is interesting if you're interested', which I think is true, so I'm going to be interested to make it interesting. Today's Information Management, which should be interesting, since part of my background is in IT.
Several people have been asking me questions about several MBA related topics (GMAT, financing, housing in London etc), so I'll write some of my sage and priceless advice on some of these topics later on this week.

Hey! I hope you get to enjoy the next months to the full extent. I envy you a little bit, I would have loved to attend but couldn't make it to London on a weekday.
So how's the class of 2008? Did you meet a nice bunch of people?
Class of 2008 is shaping up very nicely, they're fab people!
It's sometimes easy to forget that we're going to the pre-eminent / preeminent MBA business school in Europe.
