I will survive

[question: when do you know you've been neglecting your blog a bit? When one of your studygroup mates comes up and asks if I can please add a new entry since he is sick of my chicken-picture.....]

One of the things that worried me most before coming out to London to do my MBA was the 'technical' subjects that every MBA has as part of its core courses: Economics and Finance. It's been 10 years since I last did anything economics-related and I've never done Finance (although I do keep a budget and list of expenditures every month), so I was quite apprehensive about these courses. So far, so good though. I'm happy to report that I've survived both first classes in these subjects, and even better: I actually enjoyed them! I dunno, maybe it was the fact that both are taught by lively Italian professors, who do a great job of making stuff which potentially could bore the brains out of my head, really interesting. Now, the next big hurdle is Financial Accounting, which is scheduled for Thursday. I did some accounting-related stuff in secondary school for my exams, let's see how much knowledge is left. Plus that class'll give me opportunity to use the brand new calculator I bought yesterday :-)

Sad news on the procrastination front, though. I've got two assignments due at the end of the week, which I reckon are two hours work each, and I've yet to get my a** in gear and actually start....I really should've included 'try and get rid of procrastinating things I don't think I'll like doing but turn out to be alright' in my personal development plan.

The second year MBA students have started their courses this week, and it's really becoming busy on campus (and thus harder to snag a copy of the free Wall Street Journals). The clubs are all starting to get into swing, and I'm already trying to figure out how hard the first term is going to be (reportedly the worst term workload-wise), and how much time I'll have to do extracurricular stuff. I've already signed up for Young Enterprise (see earlier post), I'm thinking about starting a new club (more about that at a later date), I'd love to get involved in the Entrepreneurship Club, want to attend some of the other club events (media, marketing, net impact) and maybe even become involved in the Global Social Venture Competition. Talking about which, there'll be an information session on the GSVC later on this week, about which I'll report back.

On a very personal front, I've just booked my tickets to go visit my parents in mid-November, and even though I love living in London and wouldn't want to move back anytime soon, I do miss my family and friends and am very glad I'll be seeing 'em again.

Keep your head up girl, you’ll make it through those technical classes.

I feel like I have not hung out with you in forever.

"although I do keep a budget and list of expenditures every month" - that's more than my experience coming in to bschool :-) no worries, Miss N. You'll kick ass.

oh, and guess what I went ahead and did - signed up for a Procrastination Workgroup :-) yup, and it's all scientific too, run by University Health Services. I better kick that habit real quick, doesn't go well with bschool mefeels. all i've got to do now is show up for the sessions on time :)
